Mondrian Masterpieces Amaze in Toyota

A lifetime’s progress of Piet Mondrian’s artwork is being displayed in the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art’s exhibit “Mondrian: Commemorating the 150th Year since his Birth.” While mostly known for his abstract work of lines and contrasting colors, the exhibit shows how the artist was influenced by different movements in the early 20th century.

Included in the exhibit are early landscapes in the style of the Hague School with two from his Windmill series, several examples of Pointallism including “Dune study, crest at left”, and many of Mondrian’s own style of Neoplasticism of which is he most known for.

The exhibit opens on July 10 and closes on Sept. 20, 2021. The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Best access is by car but it can also be reached by taking a train to Toyota-shi Station then riding a Meitetsu bus or a direct 70-minute bus from Nagoya Meitetsu Bus Center stopping at Bijutsukan-kita in Toyota City.
