Mayor Kawamura Catches COVID-19, Shows No Symptoms

Nagoya City’s Mayor’s office announced that the mayor tested positive for COVID-19 this Wednesday evening. Takashi Kawamura 72 released a personal statement on Thursday saying that he does not have symptoms such as a fever and that he will continue his duties but working remotely and is coordinating with the Deputy Mayor.

Kawamura took the PCR test on August 31 even though he had not been in close contact with a special secretary who had tested positive on August 29, according to multiple news outlets. The mayor received two COVID-19 vaccinations on June 7 and July 2, 2021.

This comes after mayor recently apologized and refused his salary for three months after biting on the gold medal of softball Olympian and Nagoya native Miu Goto in August.
