A performer lost control of his jet ski and landed in the seating area during a performance of the water show “Seirein Saaga” at Laguna Ten Bosch in Gamagori this afternoon. Three people were lightly injured, including the performer and a female audience member in her teens, according to authorities.
Numerous accounts on Twitter show the wreckage. A video taken by an audience member shows the performer making multiple rapid high speed 180-degree turns before seeming to lose control on a last turn facing toward the audience. The jet ski landed in the first row of seats near the pool.
More images also show the pool water level to be nearly the same height as the audience seating area and no barriers between the pool and audience seating. The show’s commercial on YouTube and other news reporting footage also show the pool height in relation to the audience area.
The show is subtitled as Lagunasia Fire and Water Show, and opened in Sept., 2021 and was set to close in June this year. In a statement released this evening by the company, the water show is now canceled while they investigate the cause of the crash. Laguna Ten Bosch is a year-round ocean side resort in the city of Gamagori, which is a deep sea port 60 kilometers east of Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture.
American Brian Magruder is billed by Laguna Ten Bosch as the director. The Disney Japan website, which has no relationship with Laguna Ten Bosch, hosts a profile with a performer with the same name and describes him as a 35-year veteran of theme park productions and works as a freelance composer, director, and performer. Nagoya Times is still seeking to confirm whether the profile and the water show director are the same.
